I told Myself I Wouldn't, But...

With Spring (sort of) coming on (we had snow in the foothills on Saturday - SNOW! Unbelievable), I decided I would forgo my obsession with crochet for a while and instead turn to that other obsession of mine, gardening. But... people will insist on having babies, and I had two little ones to make blankets for. It's become a bit of a tradition for me. It's also something I can do when it's dark outside. I may be obsessed with gardening, too, but digging in the dark just isn't for me (unless there are bodies to be buried, of course!).

This one is for a little boy named Nathan. I'm a bit late with it, so he may have outgrown it. In fact, rumour has it he's off to uni in the fall. I blame his parents; they live in Illinois, and we didn't even know they were expecting, let alone that he had arrived!

I'm particularly pleased with how the edging worked out. Pretty nifty, huh?

This one is for a little girl named Su Ya (not sure if I got the spelling right on that, but that's how you pronounce it). I think I like this one better - it's more elegant, and I like the colours I chose better. It was also more time-consuming, but it kept me out of mischief at the airports on our recent trip to Illinois.

I got both patterns from the interwebs, but I can't remember exactly where. Bernat, I think. Either way, I'm pretty pleased with them. Now I just have to get them in the mail (story of my life).

I have since discovered I have a ton of sage-coloured wool left over from another project, and a pattern I haven't tried before... so much for abandoning this particular obsession!

Ooh! Ooh!

So guess who's going to see CAT EMPIRE?! I am!! Yaaaaaaaaaaay!

I have been wanting to see these guys in the WORST way since Lynette first introduced us to them on a trip home.

Can't wait, can't wait can't wait, can't wait... HAVE to wait; the show isn't until JULY!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!

On the plus side, it's in Vancouver, Canada, which isn't as far away now as it was when we were living in Illinois. We're going to take a four-day weekend, fly to Seattle, and then drive up the coast to Vancouver. So we'll get to see some sights, smell some ocean, and do some relaxing, too!

Got tickets, got our flights booked - we'll deal with the rest later. Lucky us! Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait.... :)

Rumours of Spring are Overrated

It's been windy (60-80ks an hour), rainy, it's hailed a bit here and there, and we've had frosts... exactly what happened to Spring is a mystery to me.

Having said that, my plants seem to be surviving okay for the moment; my greens are up and growing, my carrots are moving right along, and I finally got some peas to sprout (which is to say Nature finally deigned to let me have some pea plants). In fact, it's just about time for my grazing method of thinning for the greens, which consists of me eating the wee plants as I pull them up. Can't resist!

I planted some shrubs a few weeks ago, and they seem to be doing alright too, so I guess I shouldn't complain too loudly. I'm just a bit tired of this silly season.

I'm really, really hoping for some consistently warmer weather. I will be very happy if I don't see another jacket until November!
